Review of The Lucky One (2012) by Dave C — 23 Sep 2012
The Lucky One is essentially the Vow done over again from a different angle. Nothing ground breaking here, but I would probably suggest that for those who are a fan of the romantic genre this one should prove enjoyable enough. Critical response panned this film, but I think viewers will generally enjoy it much more than they did. The performances are decent, even if Jay's performance as Keith comes across as incredibly one dimensional and glossed over as the main protagonist. And the plot is enough to get us enveloped in the story, even if it doesn't really go anywhere surprising or new and stays purely middle of the road.
Given that this film might be set beside the vow, it should be mentioned that the content here is a bit more mature than one might expect both in language and in sexual nature (something to keep in mind for those who are aware). Perhaps the largest thing for me personally was how it glosses over a very prevalent moral landscape that bypasses some important questions and realities (such as how the relationship that Logan seeks abandons the marriage the film never revisits beyond the opening sequence). I found this component a bit bothersome myself, given how it deals with some of these themes so half hazard.
