Review of The Lovely Bones (2009) by Antony G — 15 May 2012
Peter Jackson takes a completely different path from his LOTR role but still uses his vision & imagination to bring this tragic story about a 14 year old girl who is brutally murdered & then watches over her family as they struggle to overcome their lose.
She must decide on staying between Heaven & Earth to seek revenge or let go so her family can move on. She watches on as her sister experiences all the things she had brutally taken from her like falling in love & the first loving kiss.
The film will take you on a roller coaster of emotions but there were aspects of the movie I didn't like, not through indifference to any character but through shear sadness concerning the plot. There is nothing wrong with the whole story it's more to do with the outcome & wishing of a happier conclusion.
But gladly the film brings home the brutality of life & we simply don't get an easy ride & a rosy outcome other Hollywood films let us believe happens.
