Review of The Lovely Bones (2009) by Mark N — 23 Mar 2012
Not a film I want to watch more than once, not that its not well made but the subject matter is too bleak. The visuals are superb of course and the film craft good.. but the characters are too disjointed from each-other and leaves the actors with nothing to sink their teeth into dramatically.
Saoirse plays her part well and stands out if only for having things to do and being shot so lovingly. Jackson proved he had a different film in him, and I applaud the passion, but I still feel test audience reaction should have lead him to bolder choices with the films final reel.
