Review of The Lovely Bones (2009) by Patryk C — 26 Jul 2012
Melancholic and violent at the same time, The Lovely Bones offers a devastating account of a grizzly murder of a young girl and her journey through the 'in-between'. While she reminisces about her life on Earth, she is stuck in her own consciousness, as she looks down at the desperate search for her soulless, cold body, and her family's unimaginable grief.
Although the visuals are impressive and enjoyable, the story has a few flaws and comes as chaotic at times, maybe because it tries too hard to mix so many genre in its 136 minutes of screen time. Stanley Tucci is horrifying, and Saoirse Ronan is very likable, as she begs the audience for a bit of compassion.
