Review of The Lovely Bones (2009) by Dan H — 22 Aug 2012
Re-viewed after finishing reading the book, to see if it would improve my original low opinion of the film, first watched last year prior to reading it. Sadly, not much improvement. Shows promise in the first half, but by the end you just realise that far too much character development has been excised.
Key things missing: the large passage of time of many years taken for the family to heal; anything remotely interesting to do with Susie Salmon's mother played by Rachel Weisz i.e. the character arc she goes on; deeper understanding of the Ruth Connors character.
In summary: stick to the book, which is excellent.
