The tone and atmosphere of 'The Lovely Bones' is at times jarring and irritatingly heavy-handed, with the loosely-adapted ending feeling somewhat overly redemptive for its young protagonist Susie Salmon, but director Peter Jackson's interpretation of Alex Sebold's novel manages to overcome its misgivings and ignite an engaging emotional core for its audience in the excellent dramatic performances of leads Saoirse Ronan and Stanley Tucci (nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role), and truly beautiful visual flair in its fantastical CGI sequences.
