Review of The Love Guru (2008) by Luke S — 12 Jun 2011
This story revolves around the Guru Pitka, an American originally who was raised in India as an orphan. He has found great success in his life and worked with high profile clients, helping them to repair their self-esteem and relationships.
But Deepak Chopra is still the number one guru in the world and Guru Pitka can't stand it! That is when an interesting proposal is brought to his attention. Pitka's agent says he'll get a gig on the Oprah show, boosting his popularity, if he is able to repair the marriage of Darren Roanoke and his wife Prudence.
Darren plays for the Toronto Maple Leafs and is the team's star player, but ever since he decided to split with Prudence he's lost his mojo. The Guru Pitka happily takes on the challenge and is making great progress when the Leafs make the Stanley Cup final! All of a sudden the Guru Pitka is being pressured to speed up his methods and fix Darren completely so they'll win the Cup.
A short cut could cost the Guru Pitka, and the Toronto Maple Leafs, everything they've worked for! Will Guru Pitka be able to recover and make things right, helping Darren win the Cup and at the same time win the heart of the sexy Leafs' owner, Jane Bullard? I can't believe it took me so long to see this movie, I've wanted to ever since it first came out but just never got the chance! It's got everything I like.
Mike Myers, Verne Troyer, Jessica Alba . . . the Toronto Maple Leafs!!! I loved this movie, it was so funny . . . stupid funny, but funny nonetheless. I've always appreciated Mike Myers' sense of humour and the fact that he did a movie directly tying in the Leafs just about blew my mind.
And I love the hockey segments in the movie, the references to CBC and Hockey Night in Canada make it seem like just another Saturday night. Any Canadian who doesn't like this movie is a traitor and should be deported immediately!!!
