Review of The Love Guru (2008) by Christopher S — 24 Aug 2009
No doubt my "Love Guru" review will be thumbed down along with my "Silence of the Lambs" rotten review; but I just couldn't bring myself to give this a negative rating, it's not possible, it's so lovable!
Guru Pitka arrived in the Indian town after his parents died while performing missionary duties, raised by Guru Tugginmypuddha (is what I wrote in my notes - he looked exactly like Sir Ben Kingsley) and given a metal chastity belt at the age of 12, he becomes the #2 guru in the world (after Deepak Chopra). Desperate for the #1 spot, he agrees to save the marriage of the lead player of the Toronto Maple Leafs so he will be invited onto Oprah, and become the top guru.
The plot is just a ploy for slapstick and penis jokes, but thanks to legendary Mike Myers, they are of the highest standard, "I know this street, do you know a Dickey Withers at 25?". Everyone I watched it with laughed, and in that sense it succeeded in what it aimed to be.
Note: How could he get kicked in the nuts if he was wearing a metal chastity belt?
