Review of The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) by Angelo C — 16 Mar 2013
This week FFFN offering; was surprised to see this rated so very much lower than the original. Anyone who thinks the actors or the story are the stars here is coming to this franchise for the wrong reasons; to paraphrase Bill Clinton's 1992 US election campaign, it's about the dinosaurs, stupid! And a series of well choreographed action sequences, set-pieces bristling with smashed glass, screaming and lots of teeth.
This is so much better than the original, yes there's the ridiculous dialogue, the tissue-thin characterisation and the frankly daft overall narrative but we're not here for any of that, we're here to see cleverly rendered CGI dinosaurs chase people and for that it's top of the pile.
(This dino-nerd is still however irked by the biological inaccuracies in the rendering of the Velociraptor legend, it's a turkey-sized feathered Tasmanian Devil in reality, but perhaps I am taking that bit too seriously).
Spielberg blockbuster nonsense at its very best.
