Naturally a technically well made film with overall decent performances. The problem is that it lacks the wonder of the first film as well as the heart and the element of discovery. There just aren't any surprises to be found.
The first film transcended the monster movie, while this sequel settles for standard fare with characters put in just for the purpose to get eaten. The San Diego rampage is the highlight and the most entertaining aspect of the film. It's only a shame the fun came so late in the game.
Overall it's a competent action adventure with dazzling fx, but it doesn't really AMAZE or fill one with awe like it should considering the talent involved.
