Review of The Lost Weekend (1945) by Suveera A — 14 May 2008
Genius director Wilder's deeply harrowing and poignantly disturbing definitive study of addiction (in this supreme case, alcoholism) and its devastating effects. A very serious social study film that needs to be seen.
Once the audience viewer sits down, they are sucked dry through the actor Ray Milland's Best Actor Oscar-winning performance in such desperation need and will frantically be gasping for a breath of fresh air.
Milland outstandingly portrays the insane plight that is all too familiar to different society members from all walks of life. Totally and absolutely realistic, this biting film is more relevant now in stature than ever.
