Review of The Lost City of Z (2017) by Matt D — 14 Apr 2017
I went into 'The Lost City of Z' knowing almost nothing about it aside from scoping out one short trailer and reading reviews praising its harkening back to classic cinema. But what I found upon actually watching it was a somewhat uneven piece of work that is at times absolutely thrilling and at other times absolutely leaden and dull.
It's hard for me to fully recommend seeing this but I feel compelled to note two big observations:
1. Why hasn't anyone tapped Robert Pattinson to play John Lennon yet? He's a spitting image with this beard and glasses!
2. The movie's biggest fail is in properly aging the characters as time passes or casting appropriate children for the various years. When our leading man returns from his first journey to the jungle he comes home to an infant even though he's allegedly been gone for years? Can I get a fact checker on the casting team, please?
