Review of The Lost City of Z (2017) by Richard S — 11 Dec 2017
The Lost City of Z is an old school adventure set at the start of the twentieth century as British soldier and explorer Percy Fawcett is given the task of mapping the little known area of Bolivia with the intention of preventing a war with neighbouring Brazil. Fawcett takes great sacrifices to complete his mission to the detriment of his relationship with his wife and sons. While in the jungles of Bolivia his team come under attack from local tribes, suffer disease and starvation. Despite this, Fawcett continued to return to the Amazon to complete his task, slowly becoming obsessed with finding an Ancient lost city which he discovers archaeological evidence for. His mission is delayed with the outbreak of the First World War but he returns years later with his son and this is where the mystery of the story lies as this was his final mission as he was never to return.
I thought it was a well acted film, great story and the film makers give their own take on the fate of the 2 explorers at the end of the movie. Classic adventure movie that is well worth watching.
