I knew of this movie's popularity and appeal from friends of mine so one night I DVRed it and decided to watch it. Never seeing it before, but a kid of the 80's I owed it myself to give it a watch.

I think for the age it was in, it's a cult-classic, but looking at it now it's very outdated and the clothes, hair, music, and everything is soooo 80's for its own good.

Some of the vampire effects are cool but the characters are poorly written (except for Corey Haim and Corey Feldman), Jason Patric is just bad as the older brother acting-wise, Dianne Wiest as the mother is way too over-the-top for her own good, and it feels like Schumacher was really trying hard to be Sam Raimi. Look at the lighting, the sound effects, and makeup effects and tell me that it doesn't scream Sam Raimi. A lot of the film resembles if not copycats a lot of what put Sam's name on the map with his early "Evil Dead" work.

I guess for some 80's born kids this is one of their beloved classics but I can't put it up there with mine.
