Review of The Lords of Salem (2013) by Juan M — 25 Apr 2013
Disappointing. I was anxiously waiting for Lords Of Salem, not only because I'm a huge Rob Zombie fan, but also to see him directing such brilliant cast (especially Patricia Quinn). Unfortunately it falls flat and dare I say, it's a bit laughable. Sheri Moon does not fit the good-girl role.
Plus there are some really poor scenes and villain choices (such as that hairy beast and the possessed baby). Things which could have been fixed had them worked through the editing (and post-production) a little more. Maybe some jump-cuts, even that overused "The Ring"-effect would have added a bit more intensity to the monsters movements and even enhanced some of the witches scenes (especially the one they're taking Moon to room 5). Aside from that, I can't review Lords of Salem and not praise Zombie for the glorious last sequence. Actually most dream sequences (except the one with that dreadful hairy beast and the funny baby) are stunning, not only visually, but creatively speaking. Definitely my favorite part of the movie. That particular excerpt is worth watching for all horror fans, but sadly not the whole.
