Review of The Lords of Salem (2013) by Tyla W — 11 Sep 2013
An ambitious more arthouse style film, that does pull you in by its visuals. It doesn't fare as well though in terms of character and dialogue. RZ has always suffered with creating banter and likable characters.
He's more of a visual stylist which is where this film excells. Apparently this is his last foray in horror filmmaking for the forseeable future, and he goes balls out with a bold and twisted work of art that is worth it to admire visually without so much engaging the viewer character or storywise.
it is unnerving and even shocking at times, so for horror fans and Rob Zombie fans it should please. Not his best film(Devil's Rejects), but it is his most fascinating work. I do hope he decides to return someday.
