Still one of the best movies I know of, and the extended version did not distract but add to the overall experience. As I have seen the original released version a few times, it was evident where the added scenes went, and they made the storyline come closer to the book.
Makes me think that they should have made six movies from the trilogy and maybe two from the Hobbit. Oh well...
