Review of The Lord of the Rings (1978) by Carolyn T — 06 Aug 2008
I'm one of the few people I know that admires Ralph Bakshi's work. His animation style was interesting and I've never seen anyone make trash look so...abstract. That said, this is mostly terrible and represents the worst of Bakshi's animation techniques.
What you won't hear from most is that there are a few bright shining moments of brilliance. I haven't seen the movie in a while, but the flight to the ford was 100 times better than what was in Jackson's version.
NOTE: Peter Jackson blatantly ripped off a few of the only well put together scenes in this. This only increases my resentment towards the recent films.
