Review of The Lord of the Rings (1978) by Stephen D — 10 Oct 2009
I really wished, at the time, that this would be completed. In some ways the essence and atmosphere of Tolkien was captured best here, with nothing comparable before or since surpassing. CGI just doesn't scare the same way this traditional animation can.
The score and sound effects are astonishing also. Has so much potential to be THEE classic above and beyond even Peter Jackson's daring and techno savvy version. Shame.
