Review of The Lord of the Rings (1978) by Leri J — 13 May 2012
Red Indian Aragorn in tunic, Viking Boromir, Human-looking Elrond, Retarded Sam, Aruman without the S, zombie Ringwraiths and dont even get me started on Balrog.. this adaptation failed on many levels.
And what's up with the animation that blends together real life action and cartoons? It is probably considered state of the art during its time but I think it looks messy and inconsistent at times.
Late 70's is not an excuse for creating such a mess, just stick to one media for god's sake. However, I applaud Bakshi's attempt to stay true to its source material.
