Review of The Lorax (2012) by Andrew B — 05 Jun 2012
For whatever reason, I didn't see this short until after seeing the new Illumination film. First viewing didn't impress me so much, the lorax looked different than in the book, there was no "great-great-grandfather snail", and the part where the onceler's family practically worships their hero kind of weirded me out.
Just re-viewed it last night, and found it to feel much more natural and meaningful, made the new film look kind of lame, actually (I liked seeing more of the factory in this one). Though I did go back and rewatch a couple clips from the new film, and was quite amused. So I think I can probably sum it up like this:
1972 Lorax: Slightly dated but meaningful parable.
2012 Lorax: Cute, entertaining fluff.
Anyways, I give this 4/5 stars.
