Review of The Look of Love (2013) by Ernest E — 01 May 2013
Surprisingly, Michael Winterbottom has decided to make a fairly light and consensual film out of the life of Brit porn baron Paul Raymond (the equivalent of Hustler owner Larry Flint in the US). If you don't know who Raymond was.
.. the richest man in the UK in the 1980s, a self made man with erotic theatres (he owned a large part of Soho) and such publications as Men Only among others. Raymond was a controversial man, womanizer, etc.
Reminiscing through flashbacks, the painted portrait is almost respectable. Even the dark times don't look that painful. In the end, despite good acting and storytelling, it feels like an unbalanced picture of a man who rocked the Casbah.
But it's entertaining... and full of naked women. Obviously.
