Review of The Longshots (2008) by Robert A — 29 Jan 2009
Keke Palmer and Ice Cube have some really great scenes together in this movie. It doesn't have quite the narrative punch or the execution to come out to four stars, but it's a very good-hearted movie, so I'm having to resist the temptation to go above three.
You probably won't be disappointed--it's not a cliche-ridden heart-warmer, nor a sappy family film, nor a formulaic sports movie. It's mostly a character study about two misfits, with a good dash of "you-go-girl" feminism and a little pean to the meritocracy of sport.
