Review of The Longest Yard (2005) by Gabriela E — 19 Apr 2013
Definitely the best Adam Sandler movie I've seen.
The issue with his films is that there is often no character development and a poor storyline. A storyline was clearly visible the entire time, character development wasn't there. However (spoilers), after the death of Caretaker, we see some quick and intense character development. However, it's still slightly lacking from a critical perspective. Towards the end, at the turning point of the big Guards vs. Cons game, the writing got slightly disorganized. However, it managed to pull through, and turned out as a good movie. It pitted extremely like-able protagonists (Adam Sandler's character and his inmates) against easily-hated antagonists (The prison guards). There were several moments where I nearly died of laughter, and was a fantastic feel-good story. Something I'd definitely watch more than once.
