Review of The Longest Yard (2005) by Brandon W — 29 Mar 2015
The remake of The Longest Yard is surprisingly a very funny movie that It seems like Peter Segal is the only director that can make Adam Sandler funny. The acting is really good, and the new actors get laughs too.
There's a lot of jokes that worked, and then there's some that didn't, like the Rob Schneider cameo for example. I haven't seen the original, so I wouldn't know how faithful it is.
People say that it is, which I'm glad it did and make it seem respectful, even if the humor is different from the original. The characters are actually a bit memorable, and the football scenes are really good.
I never know why Adam Sandler films like The Longest Yard, Just Go With It, and 50 First Dates worked, and movies like Jack and Jill, Grown Up 1 and 2, and and That's my Boy doesn't, but I'm starting to think it's because the humor in those are more clever than the movies that Adam Sandler has wrote in his recent movies.
The Longest Yard does have problems, but it's a surprisingly great remake that is not like your typical Adam Sandler movie.
