Review of The Longest Week (2014) by Corey R — 03 Jul 2018
Okay, so the director is very clearly influenced by Wes Anderson and wants you to know that. There is a shot (Conrad putting on a record) that is obviously stolen from Royal Tenenbaums. I probably would have rated it higher if it wasn't apparent that this guy just watched Wes Anderson's film collection before deciding to make this.
I'm kind of shocked by how much this film seems to be disliked, because it is entertaining. The humor in it is in the title: this movie takes place over a week. Of course there isn't that much character development because it's only a week, but it's hilarious how over the top these characters are that they manage to flippantly go from event to event over this short amount of time. It's a play on how people try to fill voids in their life so extremely and quickly. My review probably sounds arrogant, but that's what this movie is: embracingly arrogant.
