The Longest Ride comes from the writer of The Notebook and hits many of the notes of its predecessor but lacks on emotional connection. The parallel stories told in this movie are engrossing and create great depth of character.
However, the obligatory tearjerker moments never really pack the emotional punch of The Notebook. If you enjoy any of the other selections from Nicholas Sparks' repertoire (The Lucky One, Dear John, Message in a Bottle), you are sure to like this movie.
You might just not need to stock up on more tissues in preparation.
