Review of The Longest Day (1962) by Matt B — 20 Jun 2009
A lengthy look (almost 3 hours) from both sides on this historic day. It lacks the realism of Saving Private Ryan but showed more detail of the various assaults such as the one on the cliffs at Pointe du Hoc.
Some curious filmmaking can be seen, such as an abrupt cut by the seaside when a character is in the scene and then the scene changes to the same background without the character. I like how the characters spoke in their native languages, and the film being black and white I think helped enhance the realism.
