Review of The Longest Day (1962) by Rogelio P — 04 Nov 2007
A commendable attempt at portraying the biggest military push man has ever taken, but that's it. Superb casting doesn't save it either from the blunder of portraying a "clean" war, looks pretty much like the propaganda reels of the 1940s - on this regard I applaud the making of Saving Private Ryan.
.. war is hell and there's no way to dress it up to make it 'nice'. The Longest Day is a very long movie, probably best seen if taking a mid-movie intermission break; or let it run, probably all you will miss are a couple of 'hero' puns or bad Hollywood war movie clichés.
