Review of The Longest Day (1962) by Simon L — 09 Apr 2008
I'd like to see some film historian take some time and compile a list of all the actors in the early 60s who WEREN'T in The Longest Day. It'd probably only take, like, half an hour. This is the archetypal "war movie," for better or for worse.
Yes, it lacks the hype-realism of Private Ryan, but this is the kind of epic scope that every war film since has tried to match. The realistic portrail of the German side of events in particular is still a far off goal most movies only hope to aspire to.
