Review of The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996) by Johnathon W — 04 Dec 2017
Underrated action film that while flawed, is still one of the smarter movies in the genre. Geena Davis makes for a compelling action heroine, using her physique to great effect and pairs well with Samuel L.
Jackson, who deliver's Shane Black's dialogue brilliantly. They also get another great Shane Black villain in Timothy, played with nice smarminess by Craig Bierko. Behind the camera, Renny Harlin's direction is still more flash than substance, but he keeps the story going with some nice set pieces (the finale on the bridge is a standout).
The main appeal is Shane Black script, which is one of his best ever written, with fantastic twists & dialogue, though there as some glaring plot holes (Charly's reawakening happens at a very convenient time for the bad guys).
Overall, a fun action film, and thanks to Shane Black, another great addition to the holiday film rotation.
