Review of The Long Goodbye (1973) by Biff M — 26 Nov 2007
Great Altman riff on Raymond Chandler. At the time the film was made, Altman was attempting to highlight the differences between the mores of Chandler's era and the early 1970's. Now the film works as a snapshot of the '70's; and Elliott Gould's out-of-touch Marlowe now acts as a point of entrance for contemporary audiences unfamiliar with the 1970's LA milieu.
