Review of The Long Goodbye (1973) by Steve O — 24 Jun 2008
This may possibly be my favorite film, made in the year I was born I have watched this many times. The laconic portrayal of marlowe by elliot gould must mark a career best for the actor. Altman messes around with background visuals to keep with the mood and excels in making the observer feel like they are watching coincidental events and characters, when in truth they all have the ability to knock the story into anyway which they choose.
EG is perfectly wonderfull and more than capable to the task of updating Marlowe, and though playining him easy, the end of the film reiterates the fact that this smart ass ain't anybody's fool.
