Review of The Long Goodbye (1973) by Maxwell S — 06 Oct 2012
The thing about Altman, and you realize it more in this film, is that films focus around only a select group of people at a time. But Altman shows that everyone has their own life and they have their own story prior, during and after the film.
Altman's films always do that, but this is where he puts it into a no-story and adds a single starring just one person. If that makes any sense. But, this film really goes way out there, something that only Altman can handle.
Hard to describe, fun to watch, all around ground breaking film. Being a longtime cinephile, I can safely say this is one of the greatest films ever made, but it's goes even further up on my greatest-films list because of it's laid back atmosphere.
