Review of The Long Good Friday (1980) by Lee H — 16 Jul 2007
Although the British gangster film became devalued by Guy Ritchie and Loaded magazine, this film remains a complex, politically astute reworking of a genre that often revels in the repressed violence of English culture and laddism in general.
Bob Hoskins at his least self-conscious, Helen Mirren gorgeous and smart as usual, great casting in every single role...wonderful score. A shame neither Barrie Keefe or John Mackenzie surpassed this film.
