Review of The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (1962) by James C — 17 Feb 2012
Classic Tony Richardson film with a star making turn by Tom Courtenay, about a bitter working class man and petty thief, thrown into a Borstal (British Reform School) who shows promise to the school's governor (Michael Redgrave) when he proves to be adept at long distance running and could win them a trophy against a local well to do school.
One of the films that helped define the British "Kitchen Sink Drama" of the late 50s/early 60s, this is recommended if you haven't seen it.
