Review of The Lone Ranger (2013) by Aaron K — 30 Aug 2014
I enjoyed it. The issue with the movie is that it's a western. You really can't do a whole lot with the genre without going to over the top, and losing the suspension of disbelief.
It was fun, a bit campy, but it felt like a comedy western. Overall I enjoyed it.
I absolutely get why people wouldn't. It doesn't have a supernatural element. It doesn't have a high tech element. It cowboys & indians. It's trains & deserts, and there is only so much you can do with that. But Johnny Depp & Armie Hammer were both good in it. They didn't try to force the laughs, and the action sequences, though frequent, were appropriate for what they were.
