Review of The Lone Ranger (2013) by Lea B — 27 Oct 2015
I know people complained about this movie for its length and "unoriginality". Here's the thing though. While the story of two main characters, a Native American and a white man was done before in films such as "Winnetou". However, the way this was executed is creative, fun and absolutely hillarious and wacky. As a comedy this is the best comedy I've seen since Monty Python's "Spamalot". Also, it's still more original than Adam Sandler movies or those typical love story with cliche's of a girl desiring a soulmate, she meets the guy, missunderstanding happens than a miracle has to happen for their love to be saved (Robert Downey Jr. movie "Only You" was pretty guilty on this). The costumes and make-up are amazing and very creative too. I love the fact that the idea for Tonto's design came from Johnny Depp. Also, his and Arnie Hammer's performance are just mindblowingly hillarious and their interractions always get me to laugh.
As for the movie's running time.... People, get serious, will you? I know that this movie's running time is 149 minutes, but for God's sake, that's no reason to criticize it for it. Besides, there are other films that are almost as long as this one. For example, There's "The Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey" is 20 minutes longer than this movie, yet it somehow managed to get more appreciation than this one. And they both deserved more than what they got. And the similar thing can be said for the Lord of the Rings trilogy (their theatrical version at least. Seriously, The Two Towers is 30 minutes longer than this movie.). There are also films that are almost as long as this, but are far worse than this (One of the examples being "Jurassic Park: The Lost World).
