This Lone Ranger revitalization doesn't do the original series justice. Directed by Gore Verbinski ("Pirates of the Caribbean" trilogy), the film tries to give the classic story a respectful yet fresh tone, but often fails in that regard.

It's bolstered by strong performances by Johnny Depp ("Public Enemies") and Armie Hammer ("J. Edgar"), but even they can't fully save the very lengthy narrative and, often times, overdone action sequences which way down the film's power.

Yet, it still has plenty of fun and humor which should keep most audiences hooked throughout. Verbinski does his best to add his smart directing touches to it, which can help make certain sections flow at a quicker pace.

Ultimately, "The Lone Ranger" is a witty, adventurous movie that has a few hints of the original American tale, but it easily could have been enriched a little more by focusing more on strengthening the script rather than on the bulky action spectacles.
