Review of The Lone Ranger (1956) by Ian N — 02 Mar 2014
There IS some entertaining value to The Lone Ranger, even though the bad stuff does outweigh the good. The plot involving building the railroad, Indians, gangs and corrupt officials is so muddled you'll probably wonder what the hell the writers were thinking. BUT, the final and the "train chase" if you will, is the most memorable part of the movie, even though that is filled with all sorts of cliches from several preceding Hollywood movies. The Lone Ranger suffers from John Carter, syndrome, a movie that also felt dated and carbon frozen for over a decade, and got thawed out at the movies at the wrong time.
For what it's worth, The Lone Ranger is worth a rental, but I don't recommend a purchase. Rent it, watch it, get it over with.
