Review of The Lone Ranger (1956) by Matt H — 15 Mar 2014
First off, what a terrible framing device. Depp is miscast, Hammer is solid. The attempts at humor are really bad, what's Helen Bonham Carter doing in this movie? Tim Burton's not around. The train sequence at the end is a great scene, the only thing worth anyone's time; seriously people, anyone interested in watching it, just fast forward to the 2 hour mark - it's not like you'll miss any character development or anything of value.
Truthfully, I think Gore Verbinski made this whole movie just to get that train sequence in. He probably went to his pimp Disney and asked to make an original western he had in mind with the train sequence at the end, but Disney was like "franchise, bro," and were like "hey nobody's doing anything with our lucrative Lone Ranger property, why don't you blow the dust off our old spec script and write your movie into ours.
