Review of The Loft (2014) by Russell S — 11 Feb 2018
A bit of a guilty pleasure of mine really. To be honest, I'd never heard of this movie until I found it on Netflix. I gave it a watch because why not and I actually liked it more than I probably should've.
For me, the movie tells us about the dangers of infidelity and having friends, a message similar to The Room albeit better executed. It had me guessing and it was surprising to see how deceptive things got.
When they say "looks can be deceiving", it's not limited to the appearance of someone. Though I will admit things became convoluted by the third act as it ends up becoming Now You See Me with constant audience swerving.
The characters are mostly unlikable asshats though it had me guessing which one is responsible. The only one I really rooted for was Karl Urban. The others? To hell with them. I liked The Loft despite its characters being jerks and the third act putting the movie in jeopardy for anyone who liked the movie up until that point.
I probably liked it because I don't watch a lot of whodunits.
