Review of The Lobster (2015) by John A — 01 Aug 2016
Interesting movie, but morbid and unsatisfying ending.. I'm always cautious when most of the critics love a movie ("Sideways" comes to mind) because that's a red flag to regular people like us who don't watch movies for a living and over analyze the plot and entertainment value.
Such is the case with this movie. Interesting premise and nicely acted, but to me, it got more boring, unrelateable, and morbid. I suppose it's a statement about authentic love, but done so in an obscure, melancholy way.
And the ending is...really? I won't give it away, but other than making a grotesque statement of Farrell's true love, how is this realistic in any sense- even in their deluted, for couple's only world? No thanks.
Disappointing.
