THE LOBSTER seems almost too strange to consider, with a story so unique and ambitious that it is hard to imagine how it was given a budget to bring into production, let alone draw the likes of Rachel Weisz and Colin Farrell.

I am so glad that it exists, because I truly found it to be one of the most compelling films in years. Director Yorgos Lanthimos drives a fantastic visual narrative, walking the fine line between artistic cinema and offbeat comedy, and yet this film still takes itself seriously, which is why I think it works so well.

Undoubtedly this is marinated in satire, but the dystopian world we see is thoroughly frightening -- the kind of world glimpsed only in fever dreams or thought about during anxious nights of sleeplessness.

Farrell is extraordinary and fulfills his leading role with perfection down to the last unsettling scene. This is a wonderfully strange film.
