Review of The Lobster (2015) by Eric M — 18 Jun 2016
Bull$!t. Colin Farrell and Rachael Weiz are great actors and they were great in this movie. The movie starts off with some quirky and creative ideas to explore. From the start it challenges so many cinematic aspects --almost EVERY cinematography challenge it could consider--and as a view you want to try to buy into it.
The actors really help you do this. But half way in you wonder "where is this going?", "what's the point?" and "what are we doing here folks?". At the same time, the humor almost gets there, but doesn't quite make it.
No one laughs. The second half you're waiting for the ideas to come together, to give you some validation for going on the movie journey, but that never happens. It never delivered on any challenge! I left mad for being duped into going to see it! It's like the "Emperor's New Clothes" of cinematography.
