Review of The Lobster (2015) by Kevin K — 02 Aug 2016
This was one weird movie. Definitely not what I was expecting. I'm rating it higher than what I thought I'd rate it actually after thinking it over a bit. Just taking it at face value without interpreting this film just doesn't do it justice. I can't put my finger on how to interpret it but I find the story amusing upon reevaluation.
--Spoilers--.
Was hoping he'd turn himself into a rabbit (something she's said she enjoys) and let her eat him. That would have been better than making himself blind, which is what I expected he'd do. I just would like to have been surprised by the ending is all. However, I suppose the actual ending was needed to convey the absurdity of trivial traits as the crux of a relationship (plays into the pressure singles face to "graduate" into coupledom) and the desperate sacrifice some would make to preserve a relationship.
