I think Timothy Dalton is great. This is one of my favorite bonds, mostly because there isn't a cheesy ridiculous plot. I also like the cultural reference of the Afghan resistance at the time. It has some great action and was a great recovery from Octopussy and A View To A Kill.
Yes the bond girl is kind of useless, but the suspense of it all really puts out of sight.
