Timothy Dalton did his homework to play Bond. He read the entire book series before he acted and he is the actor who most closely represents the Bond of the stories. He is more series and shows Bond as the secret service agent who focuses on the job first and the women later (like in the books).
Dalton keeps the humor to a minimal and the writers keep the situations more realistic and plausible. The Bond franchise resumed its place as a serious spy series with this film and Bond is once again young, smooth, sophisticated, and drinking martinis "shaken not stirred.
