Review of The Living Daylights (1987) by Dan E — 24 Feb 2013
A new Bond brings with it a new approach. Signalling that the 70s and the Roger Moore era were over for good, Timothy Dalton portrays a more serious Bond, realizing that people who kill for a living aren't typically prone to cracking bad jokes and hopping into bed with exotic women.
This movie wasn't originally written for Dalton, but for whoever wound up taking the role (Pierce Brosnan? Sam Neill?). Playing Bond straight meant that the jokes seemed forced and unnatural. Dalton's a great actor but not necessarily a funny guy.
Still, it's an intriguing story and breezy thrill ride with a few twists.
