Review of The Living Daylights (1987) by Eric-Travis S — 27 Jan 2008
Hmmm... It had its' moments. I feel Dalton was a warm relief from Moore. Although many criticise Dalton for not nailing the humour of Bond, I think the fact he nails everything else (polar opposite of Moore in many of his films) makes up for it.
There were enough one liners to keep things going, and lack of traditional gratuitous sex and evil diabolical masterminds were made up for by treating this film like a taut political thriller. There is one line about an airport involving a group of Afghan rebels that anyone in the 21st Century ought to laugh ironically at.
The fact Bond was essentially "on his own" for most of this film also made this film quite unique in the franchise. A solid entry, and a great follow-up to A View To A Kill.
